Marianne Solivan has spent years searching for repertoire that tells the truth. With My Dream / It's You, she found something rarer still — a song that told her truth. The melody is Carla Bley's "Lawns," a piece Marianne and her working band had been playing for nearly a year, drawn to its open, unhurried groove and the space it seemed to hold. "We thoroughly enjoyed the different feel it had," Marianne says. "It felt like something we needed to keep." But the melody kept asking for words — and eventually, Marianne answered. The lyric she wrote is a love song in the oldest sense: not the ache of longing or the wreckage of loss, but the quiet, certain joy of having found the one. Fingers, like stars, intertwined. Feeling safe within the love you bring. It's a song about arrival. And it's written from life. Pianist and arranger Brandon McCune took the architecture further, composing an extended vamp section — "It's You" — that transforms the piece into something larger than either melody alone. What began as a Carla Bley composition became a full collaborative work: Bley's melody, Marianne's lyric, Brandon's arrangement and original closing section, all shaped by the intuitive conversation of a band that has been playing together long enough to trust each other completely. The result is, Marianne believes, a natural wedding song — not because it's soft or sentimental, but because it captures something real: the discovery, the joy, and the commitment of being fully, peacefully in love.
